What It's All About

Let’s be honest: parenting can be difficult, and sometimes we all need a little boost. This is what Intentional is all about. Author Paul David Tripp wrote, “God is working on you through your children so that He can work through you for your children.”

We have curated a series of engaging sessions designed to support parents in their journey of raising children in today’s dynamic environment. Whether you are a new parent, seasoned in your parenting journey, or somewhere in between, this conference promises valuable insights
and practical tools to help you nurture and guide your family with faith and confidence. Along the way, we’ll have some laughs, some aha moments, and some insights that will help us love and parent our children better.

We believe strong families are the cornerstone of a strong community, and we are excited to journey with you in this vital role. Join us for a day of inspiration, learning, and fellowship. Registration is $20 per family. Childcare will be provided so you can fully engage in the conference sessions. A light lunch and refreshments will also be available.

Scott Smith

Scott has been working with teens and families for over 20 years. He spent the first 10 years
working at summer camps and in full-time youth ministry. After a prompting from God, he and
his family moved back to Kansas City, where he pursued a Masters in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling. Scott then spent the next 9 years working in inpatient mental health with
troubled teens and their families. Scott has been a hospice chaplain for the last 2 years. He
currently lives in Blue Springs, MO, with his wife Cristi of 17 years and his 13 year old son Elijah.
In his spare time, Scott loves to make BBQ, listen to Southern Gospel/ Bluegrass, and carve
wooden spoons.

Bryan Axtell

Bryan has a heart for people, but his passion is for helping families, both parents and children,
grow in their love for Christ and become fully devoted disciples of Him. For almost 30 years,
Bryan has been helping families, especially children, in not only the secular world (29 years in
public education, with the last 24 years as a school counselor), but also as a servant at Burke
Road Church and here at Parkgate. At Parkgate, he is serving for the second time on the
Leadership Team and has been deeply involved in both the KiX and Impact Ministries while
also serving as a LifeGroup Leader.

Bryan’s passion for family starts at home with his wife of 28 years, Amy, and their two sons,
Zach (22) and Brady (19).  He loves sports and “nerds” out on statistics (especially when they
involve his boys).  He also loves morning coffee with friends and marveling at God’s glory as he
watches sunrises.
